Photoshoot set design #4 of the fun and creative game photo series. This is DIY set and I’m no professional but I thought these cool and simple photography sets may inspire others. I photographed using one strobe light and low shutter speed. The camera used was Nikon D610 with a Tamron 28mm-75mm lens.

All Pink Room Photography Concept
The all pink room was a straight forward concept that was very simple. I wanted ninety percent of the photo set to consist of the color pink. All pink wardrobe, pink decor, pink everything. With very little space I created a makeshift room using foam-core boards and lots of pink paint! This shoot was just a fun photo project that was not for any particular client however I manage to get two great models to bring it to life. Alexanderia Wallace and Sydney Wheeler were very comfortable on the set with posing and taking direction. To complete the look, makeup artist Monique Stevens applied a somewhat natural but flawless look to their faces as well as provided the wardrobe. If you take a closer look at their attire you will discover that they are not pieces that you would find in your local boutique. Ill leave it up to you to figure it out 🙂 . The shoot took place at Todd Youngblood Photography studio in Charlotte North Carolina in NODA.

This was shot with my Nikon D7000 camera which is a very old camera at the time of writing this, however it does the job! The lens was my work horse Tamron 28-75mm 2.8. I wanted to use the slightly newer full frame Nikon D610 but it shoots much darker despite using the same setting on both the camera and Alien Bee Strobe lights. The Nikon D610 still does great in some occasions however I think I will be trading it in soon, i can’t trust it when shooting wedding or in low light environments.
Im may even consider switching from Nikon to Canon which I have used for photographing school sports and yearbook and they have some nice products.

Nikon vs Canon
Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras have a lot of similarities. They
both have top quality features and are the leaders in camera technology. Similarities
in the two cameras include a wide range of accessories and a solid image
quality. However, there are lots of differences that arise from the features of
both cameras.
Nikon vs Canon: Sensors
Both cameras come with similar sized sensors. However,
Nikons latest DSLRs have a new sensor design that enables them do away with the
optical low pass filter without pattern distortion. The camera therefore can
pick more details and function perfectly in low light. On the other hand, Canon’s
latest DSLRs still apply the optical low pass filter. The image quality is the
same for both though color may differ depending on personal difference. In this
case, none is better than the other.
Speed
Both cameras have quite the same autofocus speed. They however
differ slightly in their burst speed rates. Canon has high-end DSLRs with a 10
fps burst rate while Nikon’s fastest APS-C camera only manages 6 fps. However,
at the entry level where there are more budget friendly types, Nikon model
offers the highest speed.
Operation
Despite a similar performance, the cameras slightly differ
in their modes of operations. The “Tv” in canon and “S” in Nikon mode dial both
indicate the shutter priority mode. The autofocus mode terminology “Continuous
Autofocus” is easier to remember than “Al servo Autofocus” for canon, yet they
both mean the same thing. Nikons battery is also better than Canon’s.
Video quality
Canon has a hybrid autofocus system while recording videos. The
latest DSLRs from Nikon also have a continuous autofocus. Canon has
traditionally been known to produce a better video but Nikon has caught up with
them due to their latest developments.

Creative photography blue room
Another creative photography concept. This time its a blue room concept similar to the all pink room concept. I simply wanted to give the mono colored room another shot. The previous attempt was the all pink room which was a success for the most part. Using various items I found at the dumpster and painting them a solid Carolina blue. Sometimes random items simply make good props if you have good models. The bike which I hand painted blue was an easy find at the Charlotte Goodwill.

The outcome this time was exactly as I envisioned. Model Lilly Valliere had the freedom to move and pose as she felt and i was very please with the photographs.
Black & White Photo Challenge Winner
Nicole Matheny is the winner for this Challenge. It was a fun and fierce photo challenge with no guidance and only 90 seconds the best photo!
There were 23 models and 2 unique sets. Wardrobe and fashion styling were determined by the model as long as the attire was within guidelines.

So what is color blocking anyway?

Color blocking involves taking colors from the opposite end of the spectrum to create an ensemble. The fusion of two completely conflicting colors makes the picture vibrant enough to stand out. In order to use color blocking in fashion, you must choose your color palette carefully. Contrasting and bold colors result in very bright and chic look. You could also use monotone, muted and complementary colors to produce a color block effect.
It is also a good idea to avoid prints and patterns because such designs may overshadow the color block which you wish to accentuate. Color blocking has made a huge comeback in 2018 and designers have used it to full extent. Color blocking is not just limited to multi-hued clothes. Accessories are also a part of this trend and since colors can never really go out of fashion, it is becoming popular with many fashion photographers and designers experimenting with color blocking on the outfits of their models.
Color blocking involves pairing your clothes in different colors and textures. It is also aesthetically appealing since only two colors predominantly occupy your outfit. Polarizing colors are generally recommended by fashionistas but you could also use one color scheme if you are skeptical. The idea is to play with the primary color and the accent. If you are going for simplicity, you should use one primary color and one to accent. If you are looking for colors which transition easily into one another, you should use one as a primary color and two to support and accept it. This also makes the look easy on the eyes. You could also use triadic colors which would require you to use one color as the dominant one and two to lightly complement it. There are many permutations and combinations you could use to create a good color block effect.
Candy themed make-up look shoot concept
Capturing the colorful makeup, and bright spirit of this look was truly a highlight. The look was inspired by something I saw in a magazine and I just had to have it for my port. After discussing the Candy make-up look with Makeup artist Monique Stevens, i headed out to Morris Costumes of Charlotte to find the wig and then to Dollar Tree for the Whirly Lollipop.
I knew the model for this look had to have a spirit and personality that would compliment the look and bring it to life. Alexanderia Wallace was the first model to come to mind and fortunately she was equally excited about the shoot.
Creative photo shoot ideas
One of my creative photoshoot ideas finally accomplished in my second shoot with Lilly Valliere. It was a very simple black and white strip set. Once again I took advantage of random things that I found at Goodwill and around the house. I have a ton of speakers so I painted one of them a solid white. Im not sure if it still works but at least it served great as a prop in this creative look. The telescope was a quick find that I also painted.

As for the background I’ve been asked was it a real room, was it photoshop, or what. Well its actually four foot by eight foot foam-core boards that I think are used for insulation in housing. After squeezing them in the Honda Odyssey I lined them with tap and brought out the paint. Ive wanted to shoot a few looks with black and white strips for a while now so this was my opportunity. First the white layer then after it was drying I brought on the black. Now one issue that I had was the masking tape did pull up some of the paint. I thought of going back to retouching those places until the artist in me saw it as texture. Once the two boards were complete, I aligned them together and used some 4inch wide gaffers tape to hold them during the shoot. I had some alignment issues in a few places but it wasn’t anything that I couldn’t repair in photoshop post production.
The camera i used for the job was my Nikon D610 with a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 lens. I didn’t have specific shots place this time so i needed the range of the 28-75mm for range.

A few of the props are created using my hand 3d printer. If i cant find the prop that I need for a shoot, 3D printing is my next resort after looking on craigslist and amazon. The Cube looking prop was created with the printer and the little light glowing in the inside comes from glow stick from the local dollar store. The sunglasses were also printed and painted with the 3D printer.

Reticulated python snake & model photoshoot

Reticulated python photo session with Model Ava Lockhart. There were actually two huge Python snakes. One is a 16ft albino white phase Reticulated python named Ammo. The other snake is Sunshine is a 14ft albino lavender Reticulated python owned by the handler James Price.

A brief about the Reticulated Python

Considered nonvenomous and probably harmless to human beings, the reticulated python (Python reticulatus) also called “retics” or just “tics” are the world’s longest snakes located/found in South Asia. This species of python is the not only the longest but it is also among the three heaviest snakes in the world. Although there have been few cases of people being harmed by the snakes, the incidences have been quite rare. Python reticulatus jampeanus and Python reticulatus saputrai are two dwarf subspecies under The reticulated python (Python reticulatus) species.
Some Snake breeders over time have managed to produce several retic varieties which cannot actually be found in the wild. These pythons together with the green anaconda are the largest in the world. Compared to the green anaconda, the Reticulated Python is able to achieve a great length of over 20 feet while the green anaconda can achieve more girth and mass that length.
Reticulated Python Availability
The Reticulated Python is usually available all year round, imports are usually not much expensive however it might be challenging for the python to adjust to the new captive area. Because of this large quantity produced by breeders, there is no need to purchase a python caught from the wild. It is however far better to buy from a certified breeder with all necessary information about the animal you are considering to buy.
Reticulated Python Adult Size
With some weighing 350 pounds at 32 feet long, the Reticulated Python is truly large snakes. However not all snakes in the species reach these size since most adult Reticulated Python reach only 10 -20 feet long.
Reticulated Python can live for 15 to 20 years on average. However, in some rare and individual cases, these Reticulated Python have lived for 25 to 30 years.

Reticulated Python Caging
When thinking of a cage for the Reticulated Python, you should have/ make cages with strong locks and Tight-fitting racks. Compared with baby pythons who are housed in shoebox-sized cages, adult pythons are kept in 2-foot-tall by 3-foot-wide by 6- to 8-foot cages. The cage should also have a large opening enough to allow the animal to enter and exit with ease.
Reticulated Python Lighting and Temperature
The optimal temperature for the python is 76 degrees Fahrenheit to 92 degrees Fahrenheit. There are many ways of regulating the temperature which includes lighting, heat pads or even suing a thermostat. Always use a cage guard to prevent possible injury. Compared with the rest, thermostats are the best option and means that you truly get your money’s worth.
Reticulated Python Food and waterThis breed of snakes truly loves their meal, although some will start with live food. Most can be taught to like freshly killed prey or frozen/thawed prey items. While overfeeding snakes can cause health problem with the animal, you should feed the Reticulated Python every 7-10 days with a one prey item that has the comparable girth to the thickest part of the snake’s body. Always ensure that a large water dish is available at all times in the cage.
Conclusion
Always keep your Reticulated Python in a safe environment and well-enclosed cage. This will ensure that it is not a bother to people around and that it doesn’t escape into the wild.
